Coraline

Director : Henry Selick
Starring (Voices): Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Ian McShane
2009

Coraline is stop animation film about a girl who moves into a new house with her parents. She had to leave her happy life behind because of the families new business ventures. With Coraline's parents being so occupied getting the business started, she is often ignored and wishes for a better life. After a few days of boredom and exploration of her new surroundings, she becomes excited after finding a tiny hidden door. On the other side of the door is a brick wall allowing her to slip back into disappointment and boredom.

I forget the exact circumstances for her to go to the door again but she does and once opening it is faced with a vortex looking thing. Coraline crawls through and on the other side lands back into her house, except things are a little different. Everyone has buttons for eyes. Would be super creepy but everyone is pretty much perfect. Her "other mother" cooks and gives Coraline whatever she wants and her "other father" is a funny dude who does cool things. It's everything that Coraline wants until I think the third time she visits, the mother wants her to sew buttons on her eyes so she can stay forever. Once you get to this part it's just downhill for Coraline.

Rating : 3.5 stars. This movie was really enjoyable. Was it The Nightmare Before Christmas? No. But it's definitely worth seeing. Fanning's voice might be a little annoying after a while but everyone else sounds good. If you can watch the little 13 minute making of the film video. Any animated movie that can take you to another world is legit in my book. So is any movie with Keith David's (the cat)voice.

Best Scene : Near the end when Coraline is walking through the other world and things are either appearing or disappearing. It's hard to explain and I have no idea how they did it but it was pretty awesome.

Quotes

"You probably think this world is a dream come true... but you're wrong."

"You know, you could stay forever, if you want to. There's one tiny thing we have to do first... "
